An Unsung Hero: Sally Rooke. [Click once to enlarge; press ESC to return here.]
No, Sally was not like the "dingy" Central Operator Ernestine portrayed by Lily Tomlin for years. She gave her all to prevent others from suffering the fate which ended her life at approximately age 65. And the $433.40 contributed in 1908 dollars is worth several times that in today's inflated dollars.
