Looking south again at a road junction; if I'm not mistaken, the left branch goes to Badwater, the lowest point in the U.S. at 282 feet below seal level.
Looking through the front windshield at the more populous portion of Death Valley, where a golf course which is the lowest in the U.S. and perhaps the world, is located. [See links below]
"All that glitters is not gold." Death Valley was so named before the Gold Rush -- especially after 13 pioneers perished while trying to cross that hot valley.
Once I had passed most of the geologic features, I made a bee-line for Towne Pass.
As one would expect, it was considerably cooler at almost 5,000 feet.
