Roswell Library, New Mexico
I stopped at the Eden Post Office to leave some forwarding instructions for General Delivery mail a sister-in-law had sent me. Also, I was curious about the source of the town's name.
Gen. Ira Eaker grew up in Eden and learned to fly during WWI; but he no doubt earned the respect of his pilots when accompanied them on bombing missions over Germany during WWII. Click once to enlarge; press ESC to return here.]
James Rudder, an Eden native, participated in two of the pivotal battles of WWII: the D-Day Invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, likely as a field-grade officer. He rose to the rank of Major General before retiring in 1967.
The town of Eden was name for Frederick Ede, who probably immigrated to the U.S. from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.
After circling the block where the San Angelo Library was located, I pulled into an old parking garage to avoid parking on the street and get out of the hot sun. There was no vertical clearance listed. While I felt my air conditioner would clear the I-beams which supported the next level, I neglected to get out to check for clearance. I didn't get out until I heard my A/C cover being peeled back.
What I failed to see was a large circular light of the type used near barns on ranches &/or farms.
Moral: Do not enter a parking garage with no sign listing clearance; and, if you do, get out and check visually for clearance.
