Walking down the street I discovered that it costs either $3 or $5 to climb to the top; the Port Isabel State Historic Park website [see Links below] said entrance was free -- but perhaps that was if you didn't insist on testing your leg strength.
Bet you didn't know there were also Daughters of the 1812 War, though you're probably aware of the D.A.R.
Since I had taken TX100 when I saw the sign to Port Isabel, I missed Brownsville. Also, didn't realize the student invasion of South Padre Island lasted most of the month. [see Links below for more on South Padre Island.]
This is an inland estuary off on the Texas Coast between Port Isabel and Brownsville.
Somebody or something feasted on what appear to be muscles here.
