The Two Laredos after Dark

The Two Laredos after Dark

Lake Casa Blanca Intl State Park

The back of the new-renovated LaSalle County Courthouse in Cotulla, Texas.

[Click once to enlarge; press ESC to return here.] Josef Cotulla, a Polish emmigrant, donated the land for the city park and the court house.

The courthouse and water-tower from the Cotulla City Park.

Zooming in, note that there is a large water tank on the ground behind the tree at the base of the water-tower. And since the courthouse and tower are visible from the freeway at the top of a hill, the city's firemen should have good water pressure for fighting fires. (Of course, many of the houses have exteriors of rock.)

The county was named for the first French explorer, who likely travelled through Texas in 1660s &/or 1670s -- while the east coast of what became the U.S. was still being settled.

From a US83S picnic area a couple of miles south of Laredo, a view of the lights of Neuvo Laredo on the other side of the Rio Grande. [Click once for a better view; press ESC to return here.]

Panning right, there are a few more lights. [N.B. Ignore what look like hazy full moons; they are likely refractions or reflections at or near dust particles on my camera's lens.]

    Panning farther right....

This shot may finally include Laredo on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande.

Incidentally, I thought a young fellow was also taking photos at the same time as I from a higher spot to my left. And the next morning another young'un showed up also on an ATV. Turns out they were Border Patrolmen scanning the Rio Grande riparian area for illegal border-crossers.
