St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Violet, Texas

St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Violet, Texas San Angelo Library, TX

Not all of the Catholic Churches in the Southwest were founded by Spanish or Italian priests.

"You are welcome to the Violet Museum [and] Old St. Anthony's Church..." begins the marble plaque. The first three words are in German. [Click 1 or 2 times to enlarge; use Ctrl + Left Arrow to return here.]

Just the church minus the cemetery shown above in the first photo. [No; the photographer was not tipsy. :-)>]

  1. Thank you for these pictures! One of my old German-Texan relatives was a builder, and he would send correspondence to the Seguiner Zeitung in Guadalupe County from the various communities he worked in. He wrote about traveling to Violet and implies he was there to build the parsonage, perhaps the side building in your above picture. Let me know if you want a link to the article!
