Page, Arizona to Kanab, Utah

Kanab, UT

The town of Page was created in the early 1960s when a decision was made to build the Glen Canyon Dam, which backed water up the Colorado and San Juan Rivers. The photo to the right is of the 710' high Glen Canyon Dam.

The Glen Canyon Bridge was also built at the same time, thus ending the laborious process of moving large trucks, modular homes, etc. to the north side of the Colorado by cable.

Here's a view to the south of Page and the Navaho Power Plant. Manson Mesa, where Page is located, formerly belonged to the Navahos, but they traded it to the government for grazing property elsewhere. [Click 1 or 2 time to zoom in.]

I'm not certain, but the snow-capped peaks may be those of the San Francisco Mountains north of Flagstaff, both of which got more snow yesterday and last night (and the reason I mushed on to Page, which nearly 2,000' lower than Flagstaff).

Last night's Snow on the mountains of Utah with Big Water[?] in the middle ground.

Another view of the Navaho Power Plant along with the large buttes in Northern Arizona.

One might call this Utah's version of the Painted Desert, just to the north of US89.

What can you do around Paria? If you're "The Rat Pack," you can make a movie. That's right, Ol' Bloodshot Eyes (Frank), Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and Peter Lawford used Paria/Pareah for one of their flicks.

This red bluff, cliff, or mesa extended from 5-6 miles east of Kanab to just north of Kanab. And just west of where I took this shot I began seeing houses, barns, etc. amongst the junipers -- even saw a windmill. But I only saw one set of solar panels. (The Hitch-N-Post RV Park owner, who did his basic training at Ft Ord, says most people hereabouts use propane.)
